Roughlock Falls in Summer

Year-Round Splendor

Spearfish Canyon Nature Area is a great way to immerse yourself in nature at any time of the year. Hike, bike, fish and explore the canyon in the summer, enjoy the remarkable foliage in the fall or grab a pair of snowshoes and enjoy the frozen wonder the canyon has to offer in the winter. Any season you choose to visit the nature area you are sure to see things you have never seen and create memories that will last a lifetime.

A Day in the Canyon

Whether you're staying at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge or just passing through, Spearfish Canyon Nature Area is one you won't want to miss. Take a drive through the 19-mile scenic canyon (which interestingly enough is older than the Grand Canyon). This scenic byway offers many pull-off areas to picnic and explore the nature area while taking in the beautiful views of the limestone cliffs. The canyon will lead you to some of the most popular areas such as Roughlock Falls, Spearfish Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. You will have no problem spending an entire day in this one of a kind area!
